ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION TEAM (EAT)

Permanently Reducing Cars at Sunday Service: We anticipate that congregation members will continue to be sufficiently interested in RideShare to permanently reduce the number of vehicles in the parking lot and eliminate the need to expand the parking lot.

Current projects of interest: 1) NDP MP Murray Rankin’s motion on mandatory labelling of GMO foods in Parliament, creating a GE Free zone in Victoria, and efforts to oppose the GE Apple.

Recycle/Compost Enclosure: Four work parties completed the construction of this ongoing project which has made it easier for kitchen staff to access the composter and recycle bins with better lighting and organization of the area. We ask the congregation to monitor the area to ensure it works for everyone.

Prospect Lake Fairs: In May and October, SRC and EAT participated in two fundraising opportunities for the SRC budget.

Green Corner and Video Pick: Each month we bring an environmental issue to the congregation through the Green Corner in the church newsletter. We also publish a monthly Video Pick on a relevant topic for that month. In addition, we publicize environmental events and issues in the e-weekly.  Twice a year in October and April, EAT takes on the SRC Action of the Month which includes writing the SRC Column in the newsletter, the SRC Minute in the worship service and the display shelf in the foyer with the related action.

Invitation to join the EAT: We would feel really good to have some new members join us in our ongoing efforts to implement RideShare and work on the many other environmental projects that are of interest to the congregation.

Email if you would like to join EAT.
