Our Library
About Our Library Collection:
The First Unitarian Church has a well-stocked Library of about two thousand books on a variety of subjects of interest to Unitarians. Books on all aspects of religion, including world religions, are available as well as books on philosophy, psychology, the environment, social justice issues, literature, biographies and history. There is a good reference section available.
The Library has a few magazine subscriptions which are of special interest to Unitarians, specifically:
- Resurgence, a journal dedicated to the arts, environment and spirituality.
- The New Internationalist, an internationally produced monthly by writers from around the world with emphasis on people's actions and self-empowerment.
- Humanist Perspectives, a journal with thoughtful essays on many topics, poetry and readers' responses.

How to Access the Collection:
The Library is staffed with a Library Committee member one half hour before and after Sunday services. The Library is located in the former 'Green Room', off the hallway of the Sanctuary, beside the North Door of the Church.
A book cart of current titles related to the theme of each weekly service can be found close to the coffee drinkers following the service.
Any Church member may borrow items from the Library. The loan period is four weeks for books and magazines. Visitors may borrow materials with a member's sponsorship.
If a member wishes to borrow a library item and there is no Librarian on duty, there is a 'self-service' basket available for members to sign out materials.
How to Support the Library:
There are several ways for Church members to support the work of the Library.
- Members can volunteer to be on the Library Committee.
- Library Assistants are needed to take out the Library Cart after services.
- Donations of quality new and used books of interest to Unitarians for the Library or for occasional Book Sales are welcome.
- Members are also welcome to suggest titles for future Library acquisitions.
- And everyone is welcome to come in during Library hours to just sit and enjoy browsing the collection.
To get involved with the Library, please contact the Church office to be put in touch with the current Library Committee Chairperson.
