Human Condition –
Rev. Shana Lynngood with
Jana Kostaka, Worship Associate –
With the disconcerting rise of right-wing governments all over the world, the scholarship and reflection of those who stared down Nazism and other fascist regimes are back in focus.
For his auction chosen sermon topic, Peter Scales asked me to reflect on the ways in which laws and our sense of the common good serve as guard rails for our personal choices that may have a negative impact on others.
I found myself looking again at the work of Hannah Arendt (one of the 20th century’s great political theorists). What does it mean to be human, now? How do we balance personal choice and collective impact?
