First Unitarian Church of Victoria Foundation

The First Unitarian Church of Victoria Foundation was established to promote our principles and values. Currently the Foundation has contributions invested with the Victoria Foundation totalling approximately $75,000. Income from these funds is dedicated to supporting First Nations education at Camosun College, and the music and social responsibility programs of the church.

First Unitarian Church of Victoria Foundation members voted this year to fund two bursaries of $700 each for two First Nations students in trades and human services programs at Camosun College.

One of the students, Brian Madam, is Carrier from the Lake Babine Nation. He is in his first year of Camosun College’s Indigenous Studies program and plans to complete his undergraduate degree continue at the University of BC.

The other student, Victoria Smith, is Cowichan and plans to enter the Camosun College’s Early Learning and Care program to fulfill her lifelong dream of working with young children. As the mother of two little ones, Victoria has to be resilient and consistent to balance the needs of her family with her schoolwork.

Foundation members also voted to award $1,200 from its Music and Social Action Fund to assist in financing musicians for Sunday services when our choirs are not performing.
