Leading off the first service on June 12th, was our own jazz blues artist, David Vest with his band in our new, acoustically modified, audio and video enhanced environment. Our Spirited Jazz Minister Reverend Shana  officiated with a new format and a new name to reflect our evolution. The band featured: David Vest, piano and vocals; Ryan Tandy, bass; Tom Bowler, guitar; Damian Graham, drums: and introducing on saxophone Brooke Maxwell. Spirited Jazz in the Sanctuary enjoyed the sounds of Dockside Drive on the 18th of September which started at 7:30 pm, and included earlier in the day, a  celebratory appreciation and dedication Sunday for our Amplify UU success story. The evening continued its celebration with the swinging jazz sounds which featured Dockside Drive’s 3 part vocal harmonies complete with a big band feel. Our newly minted AmplifyUU sound and video systems on full display that enhanced your listening and viewing experience. This was an in person service only. No ZOOM

Maria Manna
Governor General Award winner, Woman of Style Award, Alberta Music Archives Inductee, a big lush, sensuous voice, impeccable diction and confident, theatrical stage presence – Maria’s got it all with local, national and international credits. 

Maria has has been a regular feature on local stages from Hermann’s Jazz Club to Bouchard Gardens, performed as  Ambassador for the City of Edmonton Klondike Kate for 2 years, entertained the Canadian Military in Aviano, Italy and the Canadian Military in Bosnia on a ten-day tour, opened for The Beach Boys, performed with Paul Horn, Tommy Banks, David Foster and more.

November 20th
Jon Miller Trio for 

Well established Victoria drummer Jon Miller, no stranger to Spirited Jazz, innovated this trio from a former quartet, downsized during the pandemic to a duo, and now emerging as a full-fledged dynamic trio. A trio that features Hammond B3 organ stylings, complete with drums and electric guitar, with a popularity that swung through the 60s and still sounds fresh, new and exciting today. Join us for a swinging evening of top notch jazz.  The trio features Tony Genge on Organ, the newest member filling out the trio on Guitar is Andrew Janusson and on  Drums is Jon Miller.

The trio has not yet recorded, however here are 2 unreleased recordings of the duo for your sampling…
