Walking Together As One in Peace –
Qwiahwultuhw, Homilist, with Jana Kotaska, Worship Associate
Qwiahwultuhw is a Quw’utsun Elder who is generous with his teachings. He leads many events with communities in the Cowichan Valley and beyond, welcoming newcomers and settlers, introducing them to Quw’utsun lands, and showing people how to be mindful, pray, and walk together as one in peace. He has titled his talk “Hearing an Indigenous Worldview”, and will share with us what his parents taught him and his siblings about spirituality. He and his partner, Pamela Bourque, will also drum and sing for the service.
Qwiahwultuhw was born and raised in Cowichan. He worked as a youth worker for over 35 years, coached youth in all types of sports, and teaches drumming and dance. He’s been involved with the Journey of Our Generation workshops (see link below) since 2006, bringing awareness of the history of the Cowichan people, their teachings, and residential schools, and building truth and understanding in our communities. He is a father and grandfather, and believes in the values of love, kindness, respect, generosity, and truthfulness.
