Reverend Fran Dearman
Based on the words and music of Jim Reilly, Reverend Dearman offers a close reading of one of his hymns, A Core of Silence, published in 1986 when Reilly was 43 years old. It appears as #286 in our grey hymnal, Singing the Living Tradition. At Reverend Dearman’s request, this particular hymn was selected by Halifax U-U Music Director Deborah Wiggins from the hymnal as worthy of mindfulness and a more intimate scrutiny.
Reverend Dearman was born on Vancouver Island, raised in the Sunday School of the Unitarian Church of Victoria, and ordained to the U-U ministry by the First Victoria Congregation some 11 years ago before proceeding to five years of settled ministry in Anchorage, Alaska. She now specializes in intentional transitional ministry, and has served in Winnipeg, Calgary, and Halifax. In Victoria on summer vacation leave visiting family and friends, Reverend Dearman will return to Ontario soon for the second of two years serving the Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga as Interim Minister.
