We will also have an under 10 school-aged group (same registration form) that will share in some of the parade preparation activities in addition to lots of outdoor play-based activities in our natural surroundings. This will be an affirming and joyful week for 2SLGBTQ+ and their allies.

Unitarians have a long history of standing up for social justice and human rights. They marched at Selma in the 1960s, and each year they march in Victoria’s pride parade– a festival of music and colour which gathers over 60,000 people to celebrate the beauty of diverse gender expression.

This year’s summer camp at First Unitarian focusses on Pride. Through the week, we’ll brainstorm, design and fabricate an epic moving art piece to complete in time for the weekend parade. Using upcycled and repurposed materials, we’ll design and create costumes/masks/imagery that reflect who we are and what we would like to see in the world. Project mentors include Tim Cameron, recent graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts, and professional working artists from Bastion Square’s Gage Gallery Collective.

Through the week, we’ll also learn culinary skills, make great food and eat together in the summer sunshine. We’ll perfect the art of making fruit popsicles. There’ll be plenty of time to play games, explore and relax in the beautiful light-filled campus of green.
