Reverend Melora Lynngood – According to our congregation’s mission, we are supposed to seek spiritual growth through embracing diversity – an understandable and worthy goal for progressives when the diversity about which we speak is centred on ethnicity, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, theology, etc. But what is a good progressive to do when confronted with a right-wing conservative or a fundamentalist Christian? Is there any point to dialogue? Can we use our rational minds to find common ground? This sermon topic won last year’s Action Auction by church member Andy Lee, a topic inspired, in part, by his reading of the book, “TheRighteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion.”
