“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without
roots”(Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Jr.).   Since 1994 the BC Black History Awareness Society has celebrated historical and contemporary achievements of Black people in this province.  Silvia Mangue will share how the roots of Blackpeople run deep in BC’s history. Joining Sylvia will be a special performance of an African dance by Sinbad, who is originally from Ghana, but now lives in the Cowichan area.

Silvia is President of the BC Black History Awareness Society as well as being the the founder of both Kulea Culture Society and Kulea Love Inc. Her focus is to help shape and implement the City of Victoria’s commitment to equity and diversity.
