Emily Carr’s Spiritualist

 

Molly Raher Newman, local actor and historian, has been inhabiting the role of Emily Carr since 1999. Early in her career she was invited by Ken Lane to come to life as Carr in Victoria’s Wax Museum. The public at Emily Carr House and elsewhere eagerly and endlessly enter her fantasy. Those who like their Carr sober and rueful might find it hard to accept this ebullient re-enactment, but let’s remember that Carr herself cherished her native nickname: Klee Wyck, The Laughing One. Molly’s business card reads “artist-actress-musician.
