Play, Sabbath and Sabbatical

Reverend Fran Dearman, AIM (Accredited Interim Minister) – The themes of Play, Sabbath and Sabbatical are close to the heart–the place where work and love, reverence and renewal come together and some new thing can be born. Rev. Fran’s family are long-time members at First Victoria where Fran likes to think of herself as a “founding toddler.” Perhaps it was the Sunday School walks along Fisherman’s Wharf near the old church building on Superior Street that led Fran to her career at sea with the Naval Reserve and also with Great Lakes freighters. Later Fran studied classics at the University of Victoria and then segued into divinity school at the Vancouver School of Theology. Since then, Fran has served UU congregations at Edmonton as an intern minister and then settlement ministry for five years at Anchorage, Alaska. Since returning to Canada, Fran has specialized in interim ministries at Winnipeg, Calgary, Halifax and Mississauga. This past year Fran has enjoyed sabbatical at home in Victoria, singing in the choir and worshipping with her home congregation.
