Reckoning with Reconciliation and Race

Rev. Shana Lynngood with Fran Pardee, Worship Associate –

While we were away the headlines continued unabated: the many lives lost at residential schools whose bodies have now been found, the continuing story of unequal and unfair treatment of people of colour rooted in centuries of slavery and colonialism that has morphed into systemic racism.

What do we UUs say about all of this? What do we do? Where do we stand?

Conversation about adding an 8th principle focused on ending oppression has been focused on trying to make explicit what has often been implicit. We believe in the inherent worth of all people, and yet our institutions and communities don’t reflect that commitment. We’ll explore and consider what adopting an 8th principle would or wouldn’t mean.
